First impression is really essential to many people. It doesn’t matter if you are an employee looking for hire or a business owner looking to cooperate, first impression can be key to a successful interaction. This can range anywhere from being early to a meeting, having a formal greeting or even dressing appropriately. People who knows the ways to making a good first impression often optimize and make sure that they get it right, and you should to. This is because they know just how crucial first impression is. So with that said, here are 5 Reasons why first impression is really important.

1. First Impression Last Longer

As the point suggests, first impression does last for a longer period of time than any other encounters. Due to a phenomenon known as Primacy Effect, people are more likely to remember the first thing that happen in a consecutive sequence. For example, let’s say you have an interview that you need to attend. If the first thing you do is to smile and shake the hands of the interviewers, they are more likely to remember that rather than anything else you do afterward. Unless, they notice a strange behavior from you, the interviewers are going to remember the hand shake and smile more.

2. Shoot Your Shot Before Anyone Else Does

In this day and age, you will always be competing with someone for something and sometime you are competing with multiple people as well. You can’t really relax and take your time with your approach anymore. If you are looking for a job and your fellow job seeker was able to make a better first impression than you do, then obviously you won’t be the one that get hired. Same goes for businesses, if you don’t approach it wisely and make a good first impression using your products or services, you might lose potential customers to your competitors.

3. Strong Momentum

Momentum has got to be one of those forces that carry you to your destination much sooner and easier too. Once you get a good momentum going, you will feel like you’re unstoppable. Picture this, you, as an employee, nailed the first handshake and smile, or even get complimented on how well you dressed, soon enough you will keep doing better and better. You answer every questions wisely and professionally. Sure you might have some slip ups here and there, but after how well you were able to handle yourself, it all won’t matter or at least not as much, as your employers will already have a good first impression towards you.

4. More Opportunities

This is much more relevant for employees; however, businesses and companies can take advantage of this one as well. By making a good first impression, you open yourself up to a lot more opportunities that you can partake in through referrals. If your employers really have a good first impression towards you, they will look to you for promotions to a new position or if your colleagues or people you know have a good impression towards you, they can recommend other jobs or a different career path as well. For businesses and companies, making a great first impression towards the consumers will allow you to gain their trust and build a growing reputation overall.

5. First Impression Says Everything

No matter how you look at it, first impression can say a lot about a person. It can be inaccurate at times, but it can give you a general idea of how a person can react or do certain stuff. For job seekers, if you go out of your way to make a bad first impression towards your potential employers, then there will be almost no chance that you will get hired in that company which is not recommended, obviously. Same principleapplies for companies and businesses as well. If someone has a bad first impression towards your service or products, it will be really hard to recover. Due to Primacy Effect, people are going to remember it more which is why you should make an attempt to make a good one.

Conclusions

Making a good first impression in this day and age is all about showcasing your attributes without saying it outright. You don’t have to wear a suit to your interview to convince the interviewers that you are responsible. You prove it to them by showing it them. People can judge you very harshly during a first impression which makes it even more important, especially if you care about how other people look at you.
